All you need to know about our Vacuum Disc Filter Bags

Vacuum disc filter bags are used in vacuum disc filters to separate solids from liquids in various industrial processes, including mining, chemical processing, and pulp & paper production. They play a crucial role in achieving efficient filtration and dewatering by using vacuum suction to pull liquid through the filter while retaining solids as a filter cake.

Common materials include:

  • Nylon – High strength and chemical resistance, ideal for high-temperature applications.
  • Polypropylene (PP) – Great for general industrial applications with good chemical resistance.
  • Kynar (PVDF) – Superior resistance to high temperatures and aggressive chemicals.

Nylon stretch filter bags are recommended when experiencing low flow rates and wet cakes. Without a stretchable design, traditional filter bags may be pulled tightly against the sector, reducing the filtration area. Nylon stretch bags, often paired with backer cloths, allow the entire bag surface to remain active in filtration, improving efficiency.

Backer cloths prevent the filter bag from being sucked against solid sections of the sector, ensuring maximum filtration area is utilized. This can significantly improve cake formation, dewatering, and overall performance of the vacuum disc filter.

A damaged valve can cause timing issues, vacuum loss, or production stoppages. This can result in thinner, wetter cakes and inefficient dewatering. Replacing worn-out valves with high-quality replacement parts ensures proper vacuum control and consistent performance.

Plastic sectors are easier to handle, reduce operator injury risks, and are highly durable. They are widely used in industries such as mining, where reliability and worker safety are top priorities.

Key factors include:

  • Operating Temperature – The material must withstand process temperatures.
  • Chemical Compatibility – The bag must resist process chemicals and slurry compositions.
  • Particle Size & Permeability – Proper fabric selection ensures optimal filtration.
  • Durability & Wear Resistance – A longer-lasting filter bag reduces downtime and replacement costs.

Corrugated designs increase the effective filtration surface area by approximately 29%, leading to a 10-25% increase in filter capacity. This also enhances cake release and overall efficiency.

  1. Slide the bag onto the sector and zip it up securely.
  2. Fasten clamps to hold it in place.
  3. Shrink the bag by applying steam or dipping it in hot water (>100°C / 212°F) to ensure a tight fit.

Store filter bags below 30°C (85°F) in a dry, clean environment. Avoid long-term storage exceeding two years, as fabric degradation may occur over time.

Monofilament fabrics have a smooth surface, which improves cake release and allows for faster cleaning and higher filtration efficiency. They are ideal for applications requiring precise filtration and easy maintenance.

Multifilament fabrics have a tighter weave, making them ideal for capturing very fine particles in applications where maximum solid retention is needed.
